NOFX, Strike Anywhere, Love Equals Death | Anaheim, West Hollywood and Las Vegas | 22.01.2007

On Tour with NOFX

I had plans to see NOFX for one of their tour dates in Southern California. As it turned out. I ended up going to three of their shows (Jan 4th in Anaheim, Jan 9th in West Hollywood and Jan 20th in Las Vegas. All three of the shows were virtually the same with a few variations. The crowd in Las Vegas was really gnarly compared to the Anaheim and Hollywood shows. Each show had some notable punk rockers in the crowd. I ran into Greg Hetson at all of the shows I went to. Hunter from AFI, Joe from Rise Against and three fifths of Strung Out were at the Hollywood show. Jay Bentley from Bad Religion was at the Las Vegas show. With the punk rock bowling tournament going on this past weekend in Las Vegas I thought I'd run into more musicians. I didn't attend the bowling tournament nor did I go to any of the other shows involved for the tournament due to time constraints.
I am not really into Dead to Me but at all three shows they played tight. Too bad the crowd was not into them. Love Equals Death is a band to watch out for. They know how to get the crowd involved. The lead singer, Shawn, or "Travi" can belt out the vocals with incredible range.
Everytime I see Strike Anywhere they play with such passion and aggression. Their set list for all three shows included, "World," "Sedition," "Infrared" and others I recognized but did not remember.
I am officially burned out on seeing NOFX again but who knows. In two or three years I will probably see them again if they are still around. They opened up with "The Decline" in Anaheim and in Las Vegas. It was great to see them play the song in its twenty-two minute entirety. They played "The Decline" in Hollywood toward the end of their set and it sounded really sloppy. In fact, most of the Hollywood set was off. They switched verses in many of their songs and their timing was off. Fat Mike even admitted before the show started that they were going to suck that night. The Hollywood show was really interesting because they played the entire "Punk in Drublic" album straight through except for two or three songs. The Anaheim show was their second show on their twenty day tour and it showed. They played really well in Anaheim. The only notable change in the set list I notice was that they didn't play "The Brews" in Las Vegas. All three shows had a nice variation of songs from their latest effort "Wolves in Wolves Clothing" to "White Trash Two Heebs and a Bean." Overall all three shows were fun and hopefully Dead to Me, Love Equals Death and Strike Anywhere will get more press in the near future.
