Minsk- Out Of A Center… | 20.09.2005

…Which Is Neither Dead Nor Alive

Being around since 2002, one can´t really call Minsk newcomers anymore, but that´s axactly what they are to my ears. After one demo and several tours, this is their first full length, which is produced by Sanford Praker (ex Buried At Sea), who also joined Minsk after the sad break up of Buried At Sea. Taken together, this isn´t the worst starting point for a first full length, and it truly is far away from being bad. The info sheet says something about “psychedelic heaviness” and this is one of the rare times, that it isn´t telling total crap. Packed with 6 songs, the CD sounds like a journey through different centuries of music, always with a focus on heavy and diverse songwriting. If you could imagine a mixture of Hawkwind´s spaced out guitar jams and Mastodon´s rolling heaviness, you should think about getting your hands on Minsk´s debut. Surprise of the month!!!
